Discovering and learning about crystals has been a magical and freeing journey. There’s so much to learn and to explore, but at the end of the day it’s a personal experience that leads you to exactly where you’re meant to be.
For me, it started out as a pretty addition to my desk.
It turned into a piece of art that reminded me of my intentions and who or what I want to be.
Now, it’s a living organism with high vibrational frequencies that are physically guiding me into living my best life.
My crystal curiosity has taken me down so many different rabbit holes, including smudging which is now one of my favorite and easiest ways to cleanse my space from negative energy and set positive, powerful intentions.
Smudging or cleansing your crystals can be an intimidating task if you’ve never done it before but it can be something that’s as simple as a 5-minute smudging session and all of a sudden your crystals are living at their fullest potential and helping you to be your best self.
I promise you, it’s worth those 5 extra minutes!
Plus, practice makes perfect. Each time you smudge, it gets a little easier and before you know it, you're a smudging master.
So how does smudging relate to cleansing your crystals?
Crystals are precious and sensitive, just as we are. They have incredible metaphysical abilities -- from aiding us in healing to providing us courage and protection.
But just as they are powerful they are delicate. While they feed us the much needed energy we seek from them, they also take on energies -- dense, often harsh lower vibrational energies can build up in our stones. But not to worry!
There are plenty of ways you can take action to make sure your crystals are cleansed, purified, and working at their maximum potential.
I'VE BROKEN DOWN 5 BEAUTIFUL WAYS TO CLEANSE YOUR CRYSTALS:
Smudging your crystals with either palo santo, sage, or your favorite smudge stick is a great way to combat any heavy energies that may be resting within your crystals.
My teacher, Jennifer Montero, suggests setting the following intention when holding my stones in the thick cleansing smoke from your smudge stick:
“All dense and lower vibrational energies are cleansed, purified, and restored to their most organic state.”
NOTE: You can use this same intention when cleansing your stones in any of the following ways as well.
2. THE OCEAN OR FRESHWATER
If you’re near the ocean, the fresh saltwater is a wonderful way to cleanse your crystals, as is any freshwater source. After soaking your crystals in freshwater, lie them out in the sunlight. This is the perfect combination to ensure that your stones are charged up; amplifying their properties.
3. FULL MOON ENERGY
Laying your crystals outside to absorb full moon energy each month will both cleanse and charge them. This can be done up to 2 days’ post full moon, as the moons’ intense energy still lingers.
Don’t worry if your crystals are not in direct moonlight.
I am always reassured by Jennifer and mother nature as I lie my crystals under the moon. I remember the magic in her voice as she once reassured me, “The moon’s rays are everywhere”.
4. SEA SALT
Covering your crystals in sea salt for several days at a time is also a great way to cleanse them of impurities. As you cover your crystals in sea salt, you can set your intention that, “All dense and lower vibrational energies are cleansed, purified, and restored to their most organic state.”
Keeping an ample supply of selenite throughout my home is my favorite crystal hack. All you have to do is lay your crystals on a piece or slab of selenite overnight and set your intention. Your crystals are charged and ready to bring love and light to you as soon as you wake up. Plus, the selenite slabs are beautiful for home décor.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEANSE MY CRYSTALS?
Cleansing your crystals is suggested every 1-3 days, but remember to not put pressure upon yourself and do what makes you happy.
Crystals are meant to bring positive, loving energy into your day so I encourage you to create a fun experience that works best for you and your lifestyle.
I often find that I cleanse my crystals by the handful. They take turns resting on my selenite slabs overnight.
Sometimes, before leaving for work in the morning, I feel especially pulled to have a certain crystal with me, sometimes one that didn’t get a good nights’ rest on a piece of my selenite. If that happens, all you have to do is a quick smudge with palo santo or sage before heading out the door.
Choosing your method is all about what feels best for you.
Selenite slabs and smudge sticks are the perfect tools to ensure your crystals are vibrating at high frequencies and aiding you on your journey.
